We are the Katikati Croquet Club
Croquet has been played in Katikati since before the Second World War and, although dormant for many years the club was resurrected in 1998 by a keen group of local residents and players . The front lawns at Lexham Park, a local rest home were used for the first few years but, in 2008, the club moved to the Hunter Reserve, just south of Katikati, to purpose-built lawns and a ready-made club house. The efforts of the keen founder members who “recreated” the club and negotiated the move to Hunter reserve are recognized by all Katikati players. The club now has five sheltered full-size greens and a comfortable club house Merriman House situated amongst lovely old established trees in the Hunter Reserve, with a splendid view of the Kaimai Range to the west. The club promotes and supports croquet in the Katikati area providing high quality lawns for Association and Golf croquet play. The club hosts local, provincial and National tournaments and has hosted two World Golf croquet events in the last five years. With nearly 70 keen members playing regularly the lawns are in constant use throughout the year being enjoyed by keen members. A popular businesshouse competition is held in Spring and Autumn each year. We welcome new members to this increasingly popular game for all age groups and it is one of the few games that men and women compete on an even footing and keep active well into their 80's or 90's.. New members and casual visitors are welcome. Contact the secretary |
